This 1675 almanac presents core ideas of the Copernican revolution.

Yet Jefferson also believed that the great religions had discovered moral truths, or principles, that reason itself could find too. On this basis he produced his own version of the Bible—The Jefferson Bible, we call it, although he called his book The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth. In this book he tried to strip out of the New Testament any suggestion of supernatural intervention in the created order so as to leave only the simple moral truths that Jesus had outlined. By literally cutting up a Bible and gluing the bits into a new book, he extracted from the Bible only the parts that reason could approve. He also intended that this book, as he wrote to a friend in 1816, would be “a document in proof that I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus” (emphasis in original).
